Exterior work in the Grand River village between Paris and Cambridge, on village stock and estate-lot homes.

Brantford Siding Co covers Glen Morris, on the Grand River between Paris and Cambridge.

A small village with real history

Glen Morris began in 1820 as German’s Hollow, when Lewis German and his family emigrated from Prince Edward County and settled here. In 1867 Alva and Sydney German built a woollen mill on the Grand River, a three-storey limestone building roughly 40 by 60 feet, working yarn and wool. In 1900 James and Nettie McCrea converted it into the Grand River Lodge hotel and invested heavily in its renovation. The village also has an old township hall and a sawmill across the river, with its history recorded by the Glen Morris Women’s Institute in the Tweedsmuir History Books.

The Glen Morris Road Railway Overpass is a designated heritage structure with an unusual pair of arches, one carrying the road and a much smaller one carrying a drainage ditch. The original bridge over the Grand River was built in 1911.

Two kinds of property

The village stock is old, and older buildings need to be looked at rather than assumed. On the other side of the ledger, Glen Morris Country Estates sits on the edge of the village with custom bungalows and two-storey family homes on large estate lots, backed by forested green space, walking trails and the river. That is recent construction with recent cladding, so the work there is repair, upgrade and storm damage rather than replacement.

We quote both the same way: come and look at the actual building, then put a written number on it.

On the river

Glen Morris is a genuine Grand River village. It serves as a main paddling access point about halfway along the Cambridge-to-Paris route, and it sits at the midpoint of the 18 km Cambridge-to-Paris Rail Trail, which follows the old Lake Erie and Northern Railway bed.

For an exterior, a river-valley position mostly means being deliberate about water. Eavestrough sized for the actual roof, hung with proper fall on sound fascia, discharging well away from the building. It is the least expensive part of any exterior job and the part that prevents the most expensive problems.

Distance, honestly

Glen Morris is at the outer edge of our area at about 22 km from Brantford. We cover it and we are glad to, but we will not pretend we are five minutes away. If you want someone closer for a small repair, that is a reasonable thing to want and we will say so.

Siding Questions from Glen Morris Homeowners

Do you come out to Glen Morris?

Yes. It is about 22 km northwest of Brantford, roughly 11 km from both Cambridge and Paris, on County Roads 14 and 28. A little further than most of our area but a straightforward run, and we would rather cover it properly than pretend distance is not a factor.

What sort of homes are there?

A mix. There is historic village stock going back to the early settlement, and there are newer estate-lot homes such as the Glen Morris Country Estates development on the edge of the village, with custom bungalows and two-storey houses on large lots backing onto forest and the river.

Does being on the Grand River affect exterior work?

River-valley sites see their own pattern of damp and drainage, and how roof water is managed matters more where ground can already be wet. Sizing eavestrough properly and getting downspout discharge well clear of the building is worth doing carefully here.

Do you handle heritage buildings in the village?

We work carefully around them. Glen Morris has genuine heritage fabric, including the limestone remains of a mill from 1867 and a designated railway overpass. Where a building is designated, we point you to the County before anything is ordered.
