Hanging it correctly
Two things decide whether a trough works: the slope and the fastening. It needs enough fall toward the outlet to keep water moving, but not so much that the run visibly droops against the roof line. We use hidden hangers screwed into solid framing rather than spikes driven through the front lip, because spikes work loose over years of expansion and contraction and are the reason so many older troughs sag in the middle.
The other half of the job is where the water goes once it leaves the downspout. Discharging against the wall puts a large volume of roof water into the soil right at the foundation. What does a continuous eavestrough actually mean?
The trough is formed on site from a continuous coil, so each run comes off the machine as one unbroken piece cut to the exact length of your roof edge. The only joints are at corners and outlets. Sectional trough bought in fixed lengths has a seam every few feet, and every seam is a place that will eventually leak.
Should I go with five-inch or six-inch trough?
Five-inch handles most houses. Six-inch is worth it on large roof areas, steep pitches that dump water fast, or where long runs drain to a single downspout. It also pairs with a larger downspout, so the whole system moves more water. If your existing trough overflows in heavy rain despite being clear, capacity is likely the reason.
How many downspouts do I need?

Where should the water go?
