Aluminum Siding in Brantford
Repair, panel matching and replacement for the aluminum cladding on a large share of Brantford homes.
Aluminum is on a great many houses around Brantford, and most of it went up a long time ago. Brantford Siding Co works on it rather than treating it as something to be torn off on sight.
Working with what is already there
Aluminum was the cladding of choice through the sixties and seventies, and a lot of it is still doing its job. It does not go brittle in a cold snap, it does not burn, and the metal itself does not rot or absorb water. What ages is the painted finish and the physical condition of the panels: dents from decades of stray balls and mower stones, oxidised colour, and trim that has been resealed one time too many.
Where the panels are sound, repair and repaint is a legitimate path that costs a fraction of replacement. Where they are dented across visible elevations and the finish has gone, it is usually time to change.
Matching an existing wall
Matching aged aluminum is harder than matching vinyl. The profile range has narrowed, and decades of sun mean even a correct colour will not sit invisibly beside weathered panels. We are straight about this before starting. Where a match is not achievable, replacing one full elevation puts the transition at a corner, which reads as a deliberate choice rather than a patch.
Capping and trim
Aluminum remains the standard material for capping window and door trim, and for fascia covers, regardless of what the walls are clad in. It is formed on site with a brake, which means the profile is bent to the actual opening rather than ordered to a catalogue size. It is a fabrication skill more than a supply question, and it is the detail that makes a re-side look finished. See capping and trim for that work on its own.

Aluminum Siding Questions
Can you still get aluminum siding?
Yes, though the range is much narrower than it was and it is no longer a mainstream residential product. It remains available for repairs, matching and whole-house work where an owner specifically wants it. Aluminum trim, capping and soffit are still very much in current use even on houses clad in something else.
My aluminum siding chalks white on my hand. Can that be fixed?
That powder is the painted finish oxidising, and it is normal on aged aluminum rather than a sign of failure. Washing removes the loose material, and aluminum takes exterior paint well if you want to reset the colour. Painting is a genuine option that buys years, and it costs far less than replacement. If the panels are also dented and the trim is tired, replacement usually makes more sense.
Is aluminum better than vinyl?
It is different rather than better. Aluminum does not become brittle in cold and it will not melt, which are real advantages. It dents where vinyl flexes back, and its painted finish weathers where vinyl colour runs through the material. For most houses today vinyl or engineered wood is the more practical choice, but there are situations where aluminum still wins.
Why does so much of Brantford have aluminum siding?
It was the mainstream cladding through the 1960s and 1970s, which is exactly when a great deal of the city's housing was built or re-clad. That timing is why aluminum is so common here and why so much of it is now reaching the end of its finish life at roughly the same time.
